Introduction

On February 21, 1986, Nintendo released the first "Zeruda no Densetsu" ("The Legend of Zelda") game to the public.  This game, created by designer Shigeru Miyamoto, became an instant hit.  Now, twenty years from when the first game came out, the series has seen over fifteen titles and has a loyal fan base unlike any other game.

This rule book is for a "Pen and Paper" RPG system.  But what exactly is that?  Well, Pen & Paper RPGs are exactly what it sounds like.  Instead of a single person sitting in front of a console or computer, groups of people come together with pens and paper with the intent of playing the game through characters that they create using the rules, and playing in adventures that a Gamemaster (GM; sometimes called a Dungeon Master, DM) create.

It is the player's duty to create a character and act as that character.  The GM's job is more difficult in that it's the GM's job to create an adventure that the other players will continue to play in, as well as the monsters and NPCs that will be encountered.

Like all pen & paper RPGs, this game requires the use of rolling dice to determine outcomes.  Don't worry, it isn't that complicated.

Because there is no direct translation from console to Pen & Paper RPG, there have been some liberties taken in order to make it more playable.  We ask that hardcore Zelda fans forgive us in these, but hope that they will understand that what we did was necessary to make it playable.

This RPG Rule Book was HIGHLY inspired by the Returner's Final Fantasy Pen & Paper RPG.

And, of course, "The Legend of Zelda" was created by Shigeru Miyamoto and is liscensed by Nintendo of America, Inc.  This game is NOT for profit, and never will be.  It's just a free system created by Zelda fans who thought it'd be fun to role play in the Zelda universe.

Character Creation

Character Creation is important, as without a character you cannot play.  There are several steps necessary to complete in order to create a character for this game.   Don't worry, we'll take you through them step by step.

Attributes

Attributes make up the internals of the character.  How strong is he/she?  How smart?  How quick?  These are what attributes are.  In The Legend of Hyrule we have decided that attributes have ratings from 1 to 5.  1 being the weakest and 5 being godly.    For a full list of attributes and the ratings, visit the attributes page.

Character Advancement

So you've been on quests and saved Hyrule a dozen times. What do you have to show for it?  Well, this section will teach you how your character grows stronger.

Character Quirks

There are many Pen & Paper RPGs out there that take advantage of Character Advantages & Disadvantages.  This one is no different.  They provide players with something extra to help define who their characters really are.  Visit the Character Quirks page to learn about the different advantages and disadvantages.

Races

A character can be one of many different races in this game.  Each race has base attributes in addition to different starting abilities and starting equipment.  The current races are: Hylian, Kokiri/Korok, Gerudo, Zora, Goron, Deku Scrub, Rito, Yeti, Twili, and Moblin.   For more information and starting attributes of a race, click on the race name or visit the master race list to take a very quick glance.

Classes

Classes give bonuses to the default race attributes as well as define what a character does for a living.  Visit the classes page in order to learn more about the various classes.

Skills

Needs a description!

Abilities

Abilities are techniques, defenses or attacks that characters can learn.  Some races start with abilities.  For a full list of abilities, visit the abilities page.

Money

Rupees are the currency and they come in many different colors.

Faeries

There are two types of Faeries found in Hyrule:  Great Faeries and Small Faeries.

Equipment

Equipment is generally broken up into two types: Weapons and Armor.

Items

There are several classifications of items:  items you receive from monsters, items you can buy in stores, items found in dungeons and temples, special items that are treasure items found in dungeons/temples, and "misc" items that may not fall into any of the above catagories.

Combat

So now you have a character, you have equipment, and you have abilities.  You're just itching to defeat some evil baddies and save the land.  Visit the combat section to learn how to do so.

After Combat

You defeated a few monsters and/or a boss.  What's your reward?  [note: link needs to be changed to the #after combat section once it's been made on the combat page]

Magic List

Spells are broken up by intelligence level.  Come visit the master spell list.

Monsters

You can't have Hyrule without the monsters that occupy it.  Take a peek at the monster list to see what kinds of evil heroes of Hyrule will face.

Transportation

Hyrule is a large land and sometimes walking may not be the fastest way to get from point A to point B.  So come take a glance at the transportation section to learn how to move across the land faster.
